Raptor Visitor Management System

At Lynwood Unified School District, the safety of our students and staff is our highest priority. To enhance campus security, we implemented the Raptor Visitor Management System at all school sites in the 2024-25 school year.

While photo identification has always been required of our visitors, this advanced system allows school site staff to screen visitors, parents, and anyone wishing to enter our campuses, ensuring we know who is entering our buildings at all times.

By quickly identifying potential safety risks, the Raptor system will help us create a safer, more secure learning environment for everyone.

Below are some frequently asked questions:

Raptor is a visitor management system that enhances school security by reading a visitor's driver’s license (or other approved government-issued ID), comparing information against a sex offender database, and notifying school administrators if an alert is triggered.

Once cleared through the system, a visitor badge is printed and includes a photo, name of the visitor, date and time, and destination, enabling District personnel to quickly determine if visitors are in areas where they should, or should not be. The Raptor system is designed to replace paper sign-in permanently.

All individuals – volunteers, guests, visitors – who are not Lynwood Unified School District employees and wish to enter the campus during school hours.

The safety of our students and staff is our highest priority. Raptor will provide a consistent, standardized system to track visitors and volunteers. This is especially useful during emergencies to know who is on campus. By proactively alerting personnel to certain potential threats, Raptor allows school administrators to take appropriate steps to keep our students, employees, and visitors safe.

Yes. Under California Penal Code 627, school officials must know who is in the building and why they are there, particularly when a student is involved (e.g. early pickup). School officials need to be able to confirm that an individual has the authority to have access to the student. In addition to requiring visitors to give their name and purpose for visiting, it also requires visitors to present proof of identity.

Raptor can scan all U.S. government-issued licenses, identification cards, concealed handgun licenses, Matrícula consular ID cards, permanent resident cards, active military cards, and passport ID cards (not the full passport). Any ID not indicated above will be manually entered by staff.

Visitors without a government-issued ID will be required to produce a form of photo identification before entering our campus.

Raptor is only scanning the visitor’s name, date of birth, photo, and the last four digits of their ID card for comparison with a national database of registered sex offenders and any private alerts at the school, such as restraining/custody orders. Additional personal data will not be gathered and no data will be shared with any outside company or organization.

Visits are required to check out at the reception desk.

The staff member scanning the I.D. will immediately contact an administrator. California law allows the site administrator to grant limited, escorted access to a campus where the identified visitor’s child attends under specific circumstances and conditions.

No, this process is only for persons wishing to enter the campus past the reception desk.

All parents have a right to participate in their child’s education.
