Community Schools: A Whole-Child Approach
Our Story:
In May 2023, Lynwood Unified was awarded a $24.5 million Community Schools Partnership Program grant by the California Department of Education to provide social-emotional services and community resources to students across 16 schools over the next five years. Lynwood High School has been a Community School under the Los Angeles County Office of Education since 2019.Our Community Schools initiative is dedicated to creating a nurturing and supportive environment where students, families and the community can thrive together.
Community Schools is a holistic approach to education that integrates academics, health and social services, youth and community development, and community engagement. This model transforms our schools into hubs of opportunity, addressing the comprehensive needs of our students and families. By partnering with local organizations and resources, we provide a wide range of services such as tutoring, mental health support, family engagement programs and extracurricular activities.
Our goal is to ensure that every student has the opportunity to succeed academically, socially and emotionally. We believe that by supporting the whole child and their family, we can build stronger, healthier communities. Join us in fostering a vibrant, connected and successful future for all in Lynwood Unified.
Ensuring Student Success:
As part of the grant and to ensure their ongoing success, students will have access to a dedicated team of Community School case managers, social-emotional learning specialists, licensed clinical social workers and certified student support analysts who will partner with families, educators and community agencies to address students’ academic, cognitive, physical, mental and social-emotional needs.
