VIDEO: Deep Soil Mixing Complete, New Athletic Facility Upgrades Take Shape at LHS Imperial Campus

Construction on the new state-of-the-art classroom building at the Lynwood High School Imperial Campus has reached a significant milestone with the completion of deep soil mixing and the installation of 824 deep soil columns – laying the groundwork for a strong and stable foundation.

Deep Soil Mixing Complete

The extensive geotechnical work, led by construction firm Bernards, reinforces and stabilizes the ground beneath the site to ensure long-term structural integrity and safety. The columns create a durable base that will support the weight and longevity of the new 3-story facility, which will feature 69 classrooms and specialized spaces such a culinary arts kitchen, STEM labs, dedicated art rooms and a new kiln.

With this critical step complete, the deep soil mixing report has been officially approved by the California Geological Survey. Contractors have submitted the report to the California Division of the State Architect for final approval. The team is now assessing site utilities, including plumbing and electrical, in preparation for the next phase of construction.

New & Upgraded Athletic Facilities

Meanwhile, designs for the upgraded athletic facilities are progressing, with new softball and baseball fields as well as a multipurpose field designed for soccer and lacrosse competitions and football practice, taking shape. See a 3D flythrough video of the athletic facility here.

The removal of former portable buildings has opened up space for the reconfiguration of the fields, allowing for the relocation of the softball field and a rotated orientation of the baseball field to optimize play. The upgraded facilities will feature a new plaza entrance and pathways, lighting, protective netting, bleachers and artificial turf to enhance both performance and safety for student-athletes.

The existing football field and track will also be upgraded and improved. Athletic facility renovation designs will be finalized this spring.

Campus-wide Improvements

Additional campus improvements are planned for the remaining site buildings, including the performing arts center, gymnasium, administration building, library, cafeteria and career technical education spaces. These facilities are currently undergoing inspections and environmental testing, with a master plan for campus renovation expected to be completed this spring.
