Mark Twain Elementary School welcomed Olympian and former student Kyree King to the Comet campus on December 6, with his visit bringing excitement and inspiration to the young scholars as he shared his incredible journey from being a Lynwood Unified student to competing for Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
As a student at Mark Twain Elementary and Lynwood Middle School, he excelled in the Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) program, played basketball for the Lynwood Middle School team, and competed in Pop Warner football with the Lynwood Jr. Knights. The support and encouragement from his teachers, coaches and peers helped shape King into the world-class athlete he is today.
Now a top global sprinter and track and field athlete, King is currently ranked 19th in the world in the 100-meter dash and eighth overall in the 200-meter distance, earning international acclaim. The five-time Team USA member and a three-time medalist shared his experiences growing up in Lynwood and encouraged students to dream big and pursue their goals with determination.
During the visit, the Lynwood Partners Educational Foundation presented King with a plaque in recognition of his achievements as students gathered around to speak to the Olympian and get autographs.
Lynwood Unified is proud to celebrate alumni like King, whose return inspired students to dream big and pursue excellence. Special thanks to the Lynwood Partners Educational Foundation for honoring Kyree’s accomplishments and supporting opportunities that connect our students with incredible role models. Together, we continue to create an environment where talent, passion and hard work thrive – in and out of the classroom.
