VIDEO: Behind-the-Scenes Work Paves the Way for Next Phase of Construction at Lynwood High School Imperial Campus

Despite the quiet appearance at the Lynwood High School Imperial Campus over the summer, substantial progress has been made behind the scenes to ensure the success and longevity of the ongoing reconstruction project.

Teams have been working diligently, poring over hundreds of pages of documents and forms to submit to the state for various approvals and reimbursement for the different phases of the project as well as prequalifying potential construction companies, paving the way for the next phases of development of the 175,000-square-foot classroom facility.

On August 10, District and construction management representatives visited residences surrounding the school site to inform neighbors about the upcoming construction work, address any concerns, and provide assurance that the project is being handled with the utmost care and attention to detail.

Further environmental testing on the soil is underway to ensure the site’s safety before moving to the next phase, which includes opening bids for contractors and starting the deep soil mixing process this fall. Updates will continue to be provided as developments unfold.

“We are committed to ensuring that the work is completed correctly and to the highest standards, prioritizing long-lasting quality over speed,” Assistant Superintendent of Business Services Gretchen Janson, Ed.D., said. “This is a significant construction project, and with that comes the need for thoughtful decision-making. While we strive to maintain our schedule, it’s important to be mindful that there may be adjustments as we prioritize doing the job right.”

In addition to these efforts, final details are being completed for a new kiln, interior design and branding work, and improvements to existing buildings on the campus, including the administration and library facilities. There are already plans for a culinary arts kitchen, state-of-the-art medical training labs, and art facilities that promote hands-on learning experiences in the new central classroom building. The campus will also feature new softball and baseball fields, significantly enhancing athletic activities.

The restored campus is expected to reopen in fall 2027. Visit bit.ly/LHSUpdates and follow us on Instagram and Facebook to stay updated.
