In a powerful demonstration of community spirit and collaboration, Lynwood Unified, the City of Lynwood and the Reformed Church of Los Angeles joined forces to host the Lynwood Commitment project, a community clean-up event designed to foster a sense of community pride and ensure a cleaner, more beautiful Lynwood.
The highlight of the April 20 event was the beautification of Will Rogers Elementary School, which saw the planting of vibrant new flowers near the entrance and the painting of a new mural designed by artist Ritchie Kong.
This vibrant artwork – which features a powerful horse, a cowboy reading and the phrase, “Where learning comes to life” – was painted with the help of enthusiastic students from Will Rogers Elementary and Vista High School, along with community members, symbolizing the unity within the community.
The last Lynwood Commitment Clean-Up event was held in 2018 and was a great success. The April event coincided with Earth Day celebrations, which will involve a tree planting service in select areas of the city, providing District and city staff, residents, local businesses and alumni with the opportunity to keep Lynwood clean and work toward creating a sustainable future.
