During its first-ever appearance at a Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association (SCSBOA) Festival, Hosler Middle School’s Advanced Band received a Unanimous Superior rating – the highest rating a band can achieve.
Hosler’s Advanced Band, comprised of 42 eighth-graders, played two pieces of music during the festival on March 27 at Montebello High School. Their performance was assessed by esteemed music educators, known as adjudicators, who provided feedback on both the music program and the band’s performance.
The Unanimous Superior rating signifies excellence in various aspects of performance, including musicality, technical proficiency and overall presentation.
“It means a lot to us because our students have only been playing for under two years,” Band Director Daniel Alba said. “They have come a long way and to be able to play the music that we did and get a superior rating validates how truly skilled and talented our students are at Hosler as they continually raise the standard of excellence.”
The young musicians’ upward trajectory continued during the Music In The Parks Festival at Knott's Berry Farm on May 18, where the Advanced Band was once again evaluated by adjudicators and earned a first-place finish.
