“This is an exciting moment for our Lynwood community as we look toward initiating the process of hiring the construction company that will build this new classroom facility,” Superintendent Gudiel R. Crosthwaite, Ph.D. said. “We’re looking forward to providing our students with inspiring hands-on experiences, outdoor learning spaces and the latest state-of-the-art equipment.”
Below are upcoming project milestones:
- Spring 2024: Lynwood Unified administrators anticipate pre-qualifying new building contractors. This pre-qualification process involves rigorous scrutiny of subcontractors' financial stability, safety record and project expertise to minimize delays, control costs and mitigate safety risks.
- Summer 2024: Requests for bids to build the new 175,000-square-foot classroom will be issued, with subsequent board approval.
- Fall 2024: The process of strengthening and stabilizing the soil for the building's foundation and underground columns – known as deep soil mixing – is scheduled to start. Once the foundation work is completed, construction will begin.
The central building will feature a culinary arts kitchen and medical training and art facilities with specialized equipment and technology. Softball and baseball fields will also be redesigned and rebuilt to enhance athletic and physical activities. The restored campus is expected to welcome students and staff in Fall 2027.
