Lynwood Unified to Hold Demolition Ceremony to Launch LHS Reconstruction Project

The Lynwood Unified School District community is invited to celebrate a momentous step forward in reviving the Lynwood High School Imperial Campus with a demolition ceremony taking place at 9 a.m. on Monday, November 6, paving the way for the construction of a 175,000-square-foot state-of-the-art educational facility.

This event marks a significant moment for the Lynwood High School community as officials prepare to transform the site into a new chapter of opportunity and growth for generations to come. Representatives of the Lynwood Unified Board of Education, Superintendent Gudiel R. Crosthwaite and state elected officials will commence the demolition with a symbolic first swing.

Thanks to $250 million in funding from the State Legislature allocated in July 2022, Lynwood High School Knights will return to the District’s flagship high school in fall 2027. The new classroom building will feature a culinary arts kitchen and medical and art facilities with specialized equipment and technology. The school’s baseball and softball fields will also be redesigned and rebuilt to enhance athletic and physical activities.

While removal of the building’s interior structure has begun, the exterior demolition of the building is scheduled to commence following the ceremony. Demolition is estimated to be complete in February 2024 with construction beginning in Summer 2024.
