The demolition process for the Lynwood High School Imperial Campus officially kicked off on Oct. 16, with the installation of temporary fencing onto the campus and the initial steps toward the removal of the interior structures of Building G. The exterior demolition of the building is scheduled to commence following a demolition ceremony taking place at 9 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 6 (Please click here for event details).
The Lynwood Unified Board of Education reviewed the LHS Imperial Campus demolition process and other District-wide facilities matters during an Oct. 14 study session in collaboration with Huckabee Construction Management, Velada Public Affairs, and Hancock Park and DeLong School Facility Consultants.
As part of its commitment to transparency, the District will provide ongoing updates regarding the allocation of the $250 million in funds throughout the project. Currently, the funds have been and remain eligible to be used toward the following:
- Temporary housing solutions at Lynwood Middle School, Cesar Chavez Middle School, and Hosler Middle School;
- Demolition of the G-building at LHS Imperial;
- Reconstruction of the G-building at LHS Imperial;
- Reconfiguration and rehabilitation of areas in compliance with DSA guidelines;
- Cost associated with transitioning students from LMS to LHS Imperial;
- Soft costs and fees, such as architectural, state agency, project-specific legal, construction management, tests, inspections and more.
Demolition is estimated to be complete in February 2024 with construction beginning in Summer 2024. The project timeline is subject to change as District leaders and the city work diligently to ensure the quality of the project is maintained.
