The Lynwood Unified Nutrition Services Department recently hosted another Food Tasting event at Lynwood High School, giving students the opportunity to explore potential new cafeteria food items and have a say in what they’d like to see in next year’s menu.
Rating their favorites using a digital emoji survey, student leaders tasted a variety of food items, from vegan tamales and spicy chicken patties to peach pancake bowls and baked fries with fun dipping sauces.
“I think it’s amazing that we have the opportunity to try the school lunches for next year,” said Dayqian Baker, an 11th-grade culinary arts student. “It’s really good and the kids will really love it. You can’t go wrong with this menu.”
Nutrition Services hosted its first tasting event at Firebaugh High School in March and plans to hold additional tastings at the middle and elementary schools next school year.
To gather additional feedback from parents, the Department recently launched a virtual parent school menu committee, where participants also learned more about Nutrition Services and the guidelines that must be followed to ensure student health and wellness.
