Lynwood High School sophomore Henry Armenta has been video gaming for most of his life, but he never dreamed it could garner a state championship. But Armenta is now a CIF title holder, after outlasting tough competition throughout the state to win the crown in the FIFA game.
Armenta, who also plays soccer for the Knights, joined the LHS Esports team last year and has built strong bonds to go with his growing accolades.
"It's been great to be on the team - it was especially helpful during the pandemic because it kept us connected to something," Armenta said. "Winning the CIF title felt really good. I've won a lot of (video games), but this felt so different and special."
Armenta will now compete in the Esports nationals later this year.
