STUDENT REPORTS
Students of the District’s high schools and Lynwood Community Adult School provided updates. Firebaugh High School is using its Falcon TV media program to keep students connected with upcoming events and important announcements. Lynwood High just hosted its first Coffee with the Principal to provide feedback and build relationships with parents. Pathway Independent Study students recently showcased artwork during an Artworx LA holiday event. High school staff is continuing to support college and career goals. Universal Technical Institute provided a recent virtual presentation to students of Vista High School, giving guidance on career pathways.
COVID-19 VACCINATION UPDATE
Vaccination administration is currently in Phase 1A, which includes healthcare providers as well as school health staff. All education employees will be eligible for the vaccine during Phase 1B which is expected to begin in February. Lynwood Unified is encouraging all staff to receive the vaccine. The District is also working with the City of Lynwood to make testing more accessible for the community. Mobile testing will be available from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 16 at Lynwood City Hall Annex.
DISTRICT SELECTED FOR STUDY ABROAD PROGRAM
Lynwood Unified is one of just 10 school districts in the country selected to participate in the Surrey/New Zealand Innovation Study Tour. Representatives from the District will travel to New Zealand in 2022 to take a deeper look into SEL strategies that allow for deep connections and discussions.
BUDGET PROPOSAL
Chief Business Officer Gregory Fromm reviewed the recently proposed budget from Gov. Gavin Newsom. Highlights of the proposal include:
- Prop 98 minimum guarantee at $85.8 billion
- 9.2 billion to pay down K-12 LCF deferrals
- 3.84% COLA for LCFF ($2billion)
- No ADA hold harmless
- LCFF Funding of $64.5 billion
- $300 million in ongoing SPED Early Intervention Grant
- $540 million one-time educator investments
- $4.6 billion in one-time grant to address learning loss.
FACILITIES
Lynwood Unified continues to improve facilities at school sites through Measure K and N projects. The Board approved a request to enter service agreements on structural improvement projects throughout the District.
