LYNWOOD HIGH SCHOOL BUILDING UPDATE

Inspections are continuing at Lynwood High School, and access to the campus is restricted out of an abundance of caution. Public access has been restricted since a section of ceiling panels collapsed on June 16. Immediately after the collapse, the Board of Education approved a contract to retain a structural engineer to conduct an independent inspection in collaboration with the California Division of State Architect to ensure the building is safe and secure.

EMPLOYEE RECOGNITION

The District honored employees reaching critical milestones of 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, and more than 40 years of service! This included posthumously, Kathleen Jones Simmons, who served 18 years and recently passed away. Ms. Simmons was honored with a resolution and members of her family joined the meeting.

GRADING RESOLUTION

The Board received an update regarding a proposed grading resolution that is in collaboration with teachers, administrators, and parents, and will better serve all students. It is progressing toward completion.

INDIGENOUS LAND RESOLUTION

The Board approved a resolution declaring the District’s commitment to promoting respect for, and understanding of, the region’s American Indian and Indigenous communities, their long histories, and their continuing contributions to contemporary society.

EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT

The Employee Spotlight program, which launched in July, recognizes staff who demonstrate safe work practices. Roosevelt Elementary second grade teacher Valdemar Quijada was honored for the month of October. Mr. Quijada incorporates his passion for technology through distance learning.
