Educator of the Week: CCMS Teacher Bridges the Gap

Cesar Chavez Middle School teacher April Hannon depends on physical interaction with students more than most educators as she teaches SDC classes.

Needless to say, she’s had to be resourceful these last few months in making sure her lessons connect. Hannon uses Google Voice and video instruction to remind students when to log on for classes, illustrate how to complete tasks, and provide them feedback.

In just her first year with Lynwood Unified, Hannon has left a lasting impression on her school and she is our Distance Learning Educator of the Week.

“I’m used to being able to help my students when they are unable to help themselves, so this has really been a challenge,” Hannon said. “We’ve had to get a bit creative to make it all work.”

Hannon said her class had been using Google Classroom to accommodate students from the year’s beginning and that has helped the overall transition.

Her students also received a nice surprise recently when she used DonorsChoose to get them all new headphones for learning and had them all delivered to their homes.
