Educator of the Week: Washington Lead Cocca Breaking Down Barriers

Washington Elementary School Instructional Lead Yvette Cocca isn’t just a gifted educator, she’s also a strong student. Cocca, our Distance Learning Educator of the Week, has used this period to get a crash course on programs and technology that help her to bridge the learning gap with families.

From watching webinars and tutorials to meeting with other instructional leads, Cocca has been working to perfect school programs to enhance with teachers, like Let’s Go Learn, Think Central, and Go Math. She has been particularly committed to finding resources in Spanish that assist the District’s dual-language families.

“Some of the technology can be challenging for any family, but when there’s a language barrier it’s that much harder,” Cocca said. “We want to make sure we’re supporting all families with what they need to grasp the curriculum.”

Cocca sometimes finds herself providing tech support to parents during lengthy phone conversations. She has kept the Bobcats spirit alive on social media where Washington scholars and families regularly share posts that celebrate the school.

Washington also started a YouTube channel that showcases reading and other activities.
