Lynwood Middle School Instructional Lead Jorge Bravo turned Women’s History Month into a must-see event on his school’s Instagram page last month.
If you were lucky enough to browse the school’s IG stories during the month of March, you found a mesmerizing lesson that featured several parts and highlighted pioneering women from all walks of life. It was everything learning should be: creative, fun, and eye-opening.
Bravo’s ability to present curriculum in dynamic ways is one of the reasons he’s this week’s Distance Learning Educator of the Week.
“We’ve learned during distance learning that while students are not always checking their email, they are always checking social media,” Bravo said.
“Women’s History Month was a great chance to put valuable information in a place where students would receive it. We had a big spike in our social media engagement during that time.”
Bravo, who is in his sixth year with LMS, made a point to improve the school’s social media activity this year to better engage students. He polled his young scholars at the beginning of the school year to find out what they would like to see from the LMS social media accounts, then studied his favorite accounts (like the U.S. Women’s Soccer pages) to find new ways to present fresh content.
To help students and families navigate remote learning, Bravo helped put together a collection of online resources, and also hosts virtual lunches where students can interact during the week.
