TELECONFERENCING
 
The meeting utilized teleconferencing in accordance with safe social distancing practices. Public comment was available through email and voice recording prior to the meeting.
 
SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT
Superintendent Gudiel R. Crosthwaite and Lynwood Unified staff detailed the District’s commitment to supporting families during school closures.

Community Outreach
  • The District continues to provide laptops to students and plans to distribute around 3,000 by April 17.
  • The District has partnered with Greater Emmanuel Temple, Reformed Church of LA, The Lynwood Partners Education Foundation and the Lynwood Rotary to increase food service to families.

Curriculum
  • The District’s digital coaches have created an online learning guide.
  • The District has collaborated with the National College Resources Foundation to keep students engaged and supported with tutoring, packet and device distribution, communication with colleges and universities and parent outreach.
Safety
  • Four new security vehicles will be arriving this week.
  • Additional protective masks have been ordered.

COLLEGE SUCCESS

The District announced that several students have been accepted into elite universities, including Stanford, Penn, Dartmouth, Yale, Howard and many more. The District has also enjoyed a surge in FAFSA applications this year and is up to 91 percent at Firebaugh High School and 80 percent at Lynwood High.

EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT

The District’s new Employee Spotlight program recognizes staff who are working exceptionally to maintain a safe environment.
 
Five employees were honored, including Carlos Rivas (Custodian), Stan Tyson (Campus Safety), Daniel Garcia (District Attendance Auditor), and Health Service Specialists Erin Okazaki and Sue Poh.

FACILITIES
· A request to complete a bid for a roofing project at Firebaugh High School.
· A request to award a contract for the secure entrance project at Washington Elementary School.
