Educator of the Week: Marshall Teacher Creating Class Away From Class

Victoria Aquino’s fourth-grade class at Marshall Elementary knows they can depend on three things each day:

A quote of the day; a joke of the day, and a new dance video for physical education.

“I think it’s important to create a routine so the environment feels like school even though we’re not physically there,” said Aquino, who has taught at Marshall for six years.

Aquino is this week’s Distance Learning Educator of the Week for her ability to create an exceptional environment no matter where she is.

Aquino sends her students a week’s worth of curriculum each Sunday that includes Swun math, language arts, sentence frames, and slide shows that demonstrate how to use online resources.

Principal Deette Clay said she has shared Aquino’s presentations with other teachers.
Aquino’s students know they’re in good hands despite remote learning. As she explains in one of her slides:

I will teach you in a room.
I will teach you now on Zoom.
I will teach you in your house.
I will teach you with a mouse.
I will teach you here and there.
I will teach you because I care.
So just do your very best.
And do not worry about the rest.
