Lugo Elementary School fifth- and sixth-grade teacher Cindy Quinones isn’t just instructing students these days she’s also holding informal classes for other educators.
“I’ve helped teachers use Google Classroom and also set up their own Google Sites since I’m so familiar with them,” Quinones said. “I know the transition to distance learning presents a different challenge for everyone so it’s important we work together.”
The tech-savvy Quinones, inspiring both children and Lugo teachers alike, is the Lynwood Unified Distance Learning Educator of the Week.
Quinones is setting a high standard for her fifth- and sixth-grade combo class which boasts a high participation rate during daily Zoom class sessions. For those students who cannot join she offers several options including sending photos of completed work.
Her classes include BrainPOP activities, reading, and fun games. She said she tries to limit instructional time and allows her class time to interact with each other to help fill some of the engagement they miss being away from school.
